The Basics

My name is Neil Williams. I currently live in Palo Alto, CA. I have been working at SLAC as a .NET software developer, and I graduated from UCSC in June 2008 with a BS in Computer Science.

I started programming with some web development in 1998 doing simple HTML and CSS and despite working on many other things since then, I have always loved the web the most. I believe strongly in web standards and accessibility and try to keep them in mind at all times when doing web development.

I try to keep an open mind about languages and their relative merits and have learned C, C++, C#, PHP, Python, SQL, Perl, OCaml, and Scheme. Functional programming is extremely interesting to me, so I’m keeping a close eye on F# as well.

What does spladug mean?

I honestly have no idea what spladug means, it’s a word I made up many years ago for some reason lost to the mysteries of time. I’ve had the domain name spladug.net since late 2001 and can’t bring myself to abandon it now.
